Bauer Media launches new fitness magazine

By Sam Brodbeck

Bauer Media is seeking to cash in on the popularity of fitness magazines with a new title called Outdoor Fitness due to launch on 6 July.

The 164-page magazine will be published six times a year and cost £3.99.

According to Bauer, Outdoor Fitness will cater for the six million people in the UK who take part in outdoor fitness activities.

The title’s editorial team comprises: editor Jonathan Manning, who was previously editor of Country Walking; Mark Tucker as art director and Matt Swaine, editor of Trail, who is an editorial consultant.

Olympic gold medalist James Cracknell and TV adventurer Monty Halls are among the contributors to the first issue.

Readers of Outdoor Fitness are described as wanting ‘to be at their fittest to tackle big outdoor challenges: such as trail runs and cycle sportives, triathlons and adventure races”.

Bauer already publishes Live For the Outdoors, Country Walking, Trail and Trail Running.

Fitness magazines are a sector which has been holding up well in recent years. Men’s Health is now the best selling men’s title in the UK with average monthly circulation of 245,932 in the second half of 2010. Dennis Publishing’s Men’s Fitness sells 68,843 copies a month, and was up 1.2 per cent year on year. And River Publishing’s six-times a year magazine Healthy for Men, published in association with Holland Barrett, had an average circulation of 59,992 in the second half of last year – up 16.8 per cent year on year.
